Dear Friend. . .

You're wanting to be your best, right? Then read this full letter because it may be one of the most important letters that you'll ever read in your life. Please continue to discover why...

Fact: You encounter them every day. They’re people whose lives could be so much better if only they were good, really good, at something that's important to them. It could be as simple as getting really good at meeting people or as challenging as changing someone’s opinion.  It could be anything in the world.

Think how much better their lives would be if they were really good at what they really want to do. There would be no more fumbling and bumbling, no more trying to do the right thing and then finding despite all their efforts, that they've missed the mark by a wide margin.

Their lives could have been wonderful had they were only good at that one thing.

That is 100% True.

Now you should consider yourself. How many times have you come up short not because you don't care, not because you didn't want success, but simply because you really weren't good at what you were trying to accomplish. Have you ever had that conversation with yourself? You know the one… it always starts out with, "Well, I'm really not very good at…" Maybe it's meeting people, maybe it's becoming a painter, or a musician, or an author, or anything worthwhile.

Perhaps you know you're not good at meeting strangers, or carrying on a conversation, or standing up for yourself, or losing weight, or entertaining, or maintaining relationships or any one of a thousand other things. Maybe you already know you're just not very good at showing affection, or making friends, or asking for a raise, or even a new job. I know a young lady whose whole life had been languishing all because she couldn't read very quickly!

If you've lived on this planet for more than a month, you know there are things you're good at, and there are things, well, you could learn to do better. And if you're honest with yourself, what are the things that have been holding you back?

What are the activities that have stood out like obstacles preventing you from achieving and attaining the levels of success you've always wanted? If you're honest with yourself, you know that the things you're not very good at have been weighing you down like so many anchors, keeping you exactly where you are, while others move on with their lives, enjoying new and fresh challenges, enjoying the rewards and embracing all that life has to offer.

Ask anyone, anyone at all, why they're not getting everything that they want out of life —and it doesn't matter whether we're talking about financial goals, relationship goals, health goals, career goals, family goals, or whatever- they'll tell you they just don't know how to do the one or two things that would just make their life complete. These are the things that would change their life from 'almost' to ‘unbelievable.’ And you know what that one thing is for you, don't you!

Knowing all that, I want to take you to a place you may not have been before. It's a place that absolutely exists, although for now we're just going to imagine it. I want you to go to the place in your life 20 years from now. The year is 2029. I want you to see what your life is like simply because you never, ever got good at that one thing. You didn't know how, or no one told you, or you never found out, how to get to where you want to be.

What does your life look like because you never got good at that one thing or others.

Write about it here:

My guess is that you're not nearly as far along as you hoped you would have been. Your life is, well, it could have been so much better.

Why?

Because you never reached your full potential; you never got the opportunities that you should have embraced.

And thinking about your friends and your family? They've suffered as well. Either directly because what you aren't good at affects them personally, or indirectly, because you could have been so much and you could have contributed so much more.

How does this scenario make you feel?

I imagine you're like most people. You're not really pleased and you wish you would have become really great at that one thing that could have changed your life so dramatically.

Now let's go to a different place in your mind. Still 20 years from now, but this time, in just a few hours, two decades ago, back in 2009 you had the opportunity to really master, to get really great, at that one thing that could have held you back.

What Skills would you like to have mastered back in 2009? These could be any skills in the world. Cooking skills, dating skills, management skills, persuasion skills, or anything.

List all of them here:

Do you see a different you in 2029 as a result of mastering your new skills? Do you see a happier person? Do you see yourself with friends and family who are all benefiting because you're a different person, a better person, with an absolutely fantastic life? Think about what you're doing, where you're going, what you're achieving, and all because you took that moment to really change your life by getting really good, actually great, at those things that have made a tremendous impact on your life.

How do you want to see yourself in 20 years from now? Describe some of your ideas here:

How do you feel now?

Describe some of your feelings here:

When you look at it that way, you should be doing everything you possibly can to discover how you can change, how you can master skills and how you can become great at anything.
